Organization design for new capabilities, or: Do companies need a Chief Digital Officer?

When a company wants to implement a new capability, one of the easiest organization design approaches is to install someone in a new leadership role to oversee the execution of the new strategy. Or is it?

An ideal test case for evaluating this tactic is digitalization.  As organizations all over the world rush to transform themselves into digital players, many companies now consider appointing a Chief Digital Officer (CDO). But what’s the best way to tackle this, and how does this affect the organization’s big picture?

I had the chance to discuss these questions with Christoph Magnussen, founder and CEO of Blackboat, and expert in cloud collaboration and group communication. Below you’ll find the full version of our conversation as a podcast, as well as a short video highlighting some of the key points.

We’re looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this subject! As always, feel free to contact us with any questions or ideas for collaborating that you have.
